WELCOME TO THE DREAM JOB SHOP!

I share business classes & strategies for creatives, artists, designers, solopreneurs, indiepreneurs, small business owners, and entrepreneurs…. whichever term you prefer, you are in the right place!

I'm a BIG BELIEVER in living the FREEDOM LIFESTYLE – what does that mean exactly? Well it’s that lifestyle we’re all really striving for… one where the work/life balance feels in control because you've figured out a great system for your business.

One where you love your job because you created it yourself, and are passionate about what you do. One were free time is available and the next time your friend calls you up for a coffee date, you say “heck yes! See you there in 10 mins!”

I believe in a life that makes you… well, just plain happy!

And here’s where The Dream Job Shop is different… yes, I believe that you need to make a healthy living (obvi) so you can support yourself and your family. But the money is only one-third of the big happiness pie.

So what are the other two-thirds you ask? Pie piece #2: Plenty of energy. Pie piece #3: Plenty of time!

Think about it, if you’re off balance with one of these pie pieces, the other two really start to suffer… For example, if you are working extremely hard and are really unhappy because of it, then something needs to shift.

10 RULES OF BUSINESS YOU SHOULD FOLLOW AND WHY:

Whether you’re new at this or not, in order for your business to succeed you need to know a few things. These things are here for a reason. And in fact, they should become a part of you. If you want to build a business the right way – and by “right” I mean, authentically, passionately and on your own terms, then you need to follow these 10 rules.

Live them. Breathe them. Own them.

1. YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR BUSINESS SERIOUSLY. YES, YOU DO HAVE A REAL BUSINESS.

It’s easy to think that because your business is just "you", you don’t really have a business. But you do! Even if you’re making a hundred bucks a month right now – that’s still a business. Anything where you are trading a product for money on a repeated basis is … a business! Once you start to realize that, you will develop a different level of respect for what you’re doing. Growth and increases in income will automatically start to follow.

2. NEVER WAIT UNTIL SOMETHING IS PERFECT BEFORE YOU START.

If you wait for the perfect moment to begin something, you’ll never start. It’s important to realize that getting something out there is much more beneficial to you than waiting until you feel like it’s perfect. You can always tweak and make improvements as you go along.

3. IT’S CLICHÉ, BUT YOU NEED TO TRUST YOUR GUT.

If it doesn’t feel right and your intuition is telling you not to do it. Then don’t do it. Don’t follow someone else's path just because you thought that they were successful at it. Follow YOUR path – the one that is right for you.

4. YOU ARE ALREADY AWESOME.

Sometimes it’s easy to focus on what we think are flaws about ourselves, forgetting about the things that are already awesome. The fact that you even want to start a business is absolutely incredible!

You already have the major key traits you need to become successful: passion, creativity, and drive. The rest is stuff that you’ll learn along the way. It’s only stuff. You already have the most important gifts that will drive you through.

5. IF YOU’RE LOOKING TO GET RICH QUICK, FIND ANOTHER PATH.

If you think that success is going to happen after two weeks of hard work (and many people do) – you are in for a big surprise. To get to the financial freedom that you’re striving for takes some time. And it takes consistency. It might take a year or two. That’s totally normal. If you’re just in it for the money (and not because you truly love it), you’re never going to survive the beginning stage.

6. HAPPINESS IS THE ULTIMATE REASON YOU SHOULD BE HERE.

If you let your driving force be your passion, then you WILL get to your success! Your goal in your business is to be consistent with your plan of attack. Create a solid business plan and marketing strategy and then stick with it. Don’t sway two weeks down the road. Keep going. For at least 3-4 months. That’s enough time to gauge whether something is beginning to work or not.

7. IF IT DOESN’T MAKE YOU HAPPY, FIND SOMETHING THAT DOES.

If you start a path and end up disliking it, change it! You do not have to be on the same path your whole life, especially if you don’t enjoy it. Your success will depend on your level of love for what you do and consistency in how you do it.

8. YOUR COMPETITION IS NOT REALLY YOUR COMPETITION.

It’s easy to get focused on your “competition” thinking that they’ve already done it and therefor you can’t. The truth of the matter is, no one can bring to the world what you do with your spin on things. It’s just not possible. Be true to what you love, keep striving to get better at it, and people will naturally gravitate towards you.

9. MARKETING IS HOW YOU SHARE YOUR GIFT WITH OTHERS.

Marketing is a funny word. It’s easy to get lost in the definition of it forgetting what it truly means. Marketing is simply your message to others on what your products stand for. It doesn’t require you to “sell” or be pushy about it. It only requires you to become a little social, make new friends …and let them know you’re making some cool stuff! Once you start to realize that marketing doesn’t have to be on a grand scale, or difficult, you will start to get really comfortable doing it.

10. IT IS BETTER TO HAVE A SMALLER TARGET AUDIENCE, THAN IT IS TO HAVE A LARGER ONE THAT HAS NO INTEREST IN BUYING FROM YOU.

Big numbers don’t matter. Customers that are actually interested in what you do are what matter. Don’t ever forget this. It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers game on social media, thinking that if you had bigger numbers, you’d make more money. Not true. Focus on targeting the right people that are the right audience for you.

BONUS RULE #11: YOU ARE ALREADY WORTHY OF A LIFE YOU TRULY WANT. AND IN FACT, YOU ALREADY HAVE IT.

What if today you decided to just switch your thinking and decide that you already have everything you want. You wouldn’t be constantly focusing on achieving the next thing and thinking that if you had it you would finally be happy. Instead you would be happy with what you have right now. The truth of the matter is, your life isn’t going to get better if you have more money. It’s just going to be different. It’s also quite possible that as soon as you start making more money, you’ll always just be looking to make more and more, never being satisfied with what you have. Having less lets you simplify, which lets you focus on the smaller – more important things. These are things that will make you the most happy. Never ever forget that you already have everything you need in life. Live a rich life through the small things that make life so rich.

RESOURCES / TOOLS

I thought it might be useful to put together a quick reference guide of useful online tools I've used in my business. There's some really good stuff here and I recommend bookmarking this page for quick reference anytime you need it. Enjoy!

THE MSM BUSINESS CYCLE

I remember when I started my first business ten years ago, and how I was focused completely on "the sale". The only thing I cared about was selling my products as often as I could. For that reason my main goal each day was to focus on selling. Nothing else in between.

Does this sound familiar to you? If it does, I want to share why you might want to switch your thinking...

It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day stuff, forgetting about the bigger picture of your business. If you stop for a second and take a step back, you’ll start to notice that there are some flaws… you’re probably investing too much time in certain things and not enough time in others.

To the left, you’ll see the “MSM Cycle”… basically, it’s broken down into three parts, Make, Sell, and Market. Then, in each of those parts you can see that there are specific action steps you need to take.

Once you see everything from a bigger picture sense, you start to realize that your tasks need to be divided up in order to complete the full cycle and move forward in your business. Try to focus your time more equally and with more intention on these parts.
